Controversial – and I have also not yet found the theoretical basis, but empirically, I believe in the cycle of energy (waves, not balance), which causes me to look at how we manage a society. Polybius (a Greek historian) talks about anacyclosis. This leads me to believe in the need of a system that allows us to move more easily between the different stages (with less revolution and more intentional evolution).

Yes, the cycles may slow down or speed up a bit, but the transition depends on the collective memory & mood of people – and more and more so on a global scale.
